Figuring out different ways to build letters out of smaller parts is the underlying theme of this class. We will explore techniques to create bitmap fonts, real life lettering, stencils and other related things using our hands, paint, sponges, computers, or laser cutters.

David Jonathan Ross is a typeface designer and font technology specialist living in Western Massachusetts after moving around between East Coast and West Coast of the United States. From there he is running his own type foundry – DJR.com – and the Font of the Month Club where he releases a new typeface every first day of a month. He is best known for his typefaces Input and Bungee and his love for reversed contrast lettering and type.

This class will be taught in English (and will take place in the vorlesungsfreie Zeit).
